After a Burger King commercial featuring Mary J. Blige leaked and caused a wave of criticism, the singer kept her head low and endured public mockery and accusations of racism.

Two months and numerous 'fresh lettuce' jokes after the crispy chicken snack wrap jingle went viral, Blige spoke up in an interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez, in which she admitted the commercial was a mistake.

Blige -- who stumbled upon the lambasted advertisement while perusing the 'net for her remix with Fat Joe, "Another Round" -- explained to Angie that she was surprised and embarrassed by the public's reaction to her Burger King cameo.

"I wanted to crawl under the bed," Blige said. "It was a mistake, but I did it because I thought it was something that wouldn't come out like that. It was sold to us that I would be shot in an iconic way… It hurt my feelings. It crushed me for like two days."

Though not everyone deemed the ad racist, Blige took the on-air opportunity to beg pardon from those offended by the commercial.

"I want to apologize to everyone who was offended who thought I would do something that was so disrespectful to our culture," she said. "I would never do anything like that. I thought I was doing something right."
