Hollywood Undead is a band whose music has been described as a mixture of hip hop, hardcore, rap and metal. The current band members are J- Dog (Jorel Decker), Charlie Scene (Jordan Terell), Johnny 3 Tears (George Reagan), Da Kurlzz (Matthew St. Claire), Danny (Daniel Murillo), and Funny Man (Dylan Alvarez ).
The band originated in 2005 from a song titled "The Kids" that Deuce (Aaron Erilchman) and J-Dog (Jorell Decker) posted on MySpace. Positive reviews led them to form the group Hollywood Undead with their friends George Reagan (Johnny 3 Tears), Jordan Terell (Charlie Scene), Dylan Alvarez (Funny Man), Matthew St. Claire (Da Kurlzz), and Jeff Philips (Shady Jeff). Shady Jeff later quit, leaving the band with only 6 members. Deuce then 'left' in 2010 and began his own career. This led to controversy on whether Deuce quit or was kicked out. After leaving, Deuce began his own band 9 Lives, and came out with the song "Story of a Snitch" in which he accused the band of kicking him out after he "made" them. The band responded by saying Deuce left after not being able to take all the credit he wanted and not getting everything he wanted with the band's funds (i.e. personal assistants). With an opening for another vocalist, they recruited a friend, Daniel Murillo (Danny) who was currently auditioning for American Idol. With the new vocalist they continued to make music and produced their first album with Danny, American Tragedy. This was Hollywood Undead's third album.
The band performs in individual masks in order to maintain an air of mystery. This originated from their MySpace page which they filled with pictures of themselves in hockey masks. They made their live debut in August 2008 at the Virgin Mobile Festival after winning 285,000 votes, over half the total, in a Book the Band contest against four other bands. Their popular song Undead is featured on the Madden 2009 Soundtrack and was released as an official single on August 19, 2008, making it the second single from their first album, Swan Songs.
Though the group first signed a record contract in 2005, they spent nearly three years working on their debut album. Hollywood Undead has signed a contract with A&M/Octone Records and they released their debut album Swan Songs on September 2, 2008. Swan Songs reached #22 on the Billboard 200 in its first week of conception, selling 21,000 copies.
After Swan Songs, they made their second album, Desperate Measures, which included covers of Led Zepplin and Motley Crue songs, and many live versions of songs from Swan Songs.
Following Desperate Measures was American Tragedy, the band's first album with new vocalist Danny. American Tragedy Redux was also made.
The most current album is Notes from the Underground which came out January 8 2013.
" I pledge alligance to the mask,
I will carry whiskey in my flask,
And anyone to diss HU,
I'll leave a bloody mess with you
For we are family, you and I,
3 Tears for you, we all shall cry,
All day, all night, our flags will fly,
The Undead Army Till The Day We Die"
