Songs About Jane is the debut album by Los Angeles rock/pop band Maroon 5. The title refers to Jane Herman, lead singer Adam Levine's ex-girlfriend.
The album was released in June 2002 and by the end of 2004 it had reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 charts. The first single "Harder to Breathe" slowly started to pick up airplay which helped spur sales of the album.
By March 2004, the album had reached the top 20 of the Billboard 200, and had reached the top 10 by the end of the year. "Harder to Breathe" had also made the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts.
Songs About Jane had also eventually topped the UK and Australian album charts while "Harder to Breathe" had made the singles charts in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
The second single "This Love" had also made the U.S. top 40 singles charts and top 10 of the Australian singles charts as at March 2004. The video also had to be edited to avoid it being banned from MTV.
Songs About Jane was the seventh best selling album of 2004 in the U.S., with about 2.7 million copies sold.In Australia, the album did not chart on the End of Year Charts until 2004, where it reached #6.
