Based on a T.R.U. Story is the debut studio album by American hip hop recording artist 2 Chainz, released through Def Jam Recordings (Universal Music Group) on August 14, 2012.
The album features guest appearances from fellow rappers Lil Wayne, Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Playaz Circle cohort Dolla Boy along with singer-songwriters The-Dream, Mike Posner, The Weeknd and Chris Brown. The album's production was handled by Brick Squad Monopoly's Joshua "Southsie" Luellen, Mike Will, Sonny Digital, Kanye West, Hit-Boy, Drumma Boy, DJ Mustard, Mr. Bangladesh, DJ Spinz, among others.
The album's lead single, "No Lie" premiered on May 1, and was released to iTunes on May 8, 2012. The song features vocals from Canadian recording artist Drake and was produced by Mike Will. It was sent to Urban radio on May 15, 2012. The single's music video, directed by Director X, was released June 21, 2012. The album's second single, "Birthday Song" featuring Kanye West, was released on July 24, 2012. It officially impacted Urban radio on August 7, 2012.. The album's third single will be, "I Luv Dem Strippers" featuring Nicki Minaj. The single's music video was released on August 12, 2012 on MTV Jams. The album's next single will be "Crack", produced by Brick Squad's Southside, brother of producer Lex Luger.
The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 147,000 copies in its first week.
